still somewhat in-progress, these are songs that inspire me/fit the vibe for book 2, which features a lich antagonist, a whole bunch of undead, and some darker story beats than book 1. a lot of these are instrumentals that fit the tone.
instrumental
She's not acid nor alkaline / Caught between black and white / Not quite either day or night / She's perfectly misaligned
very exciting to have my first Sleep Token song linked to this series, given how prevalent they've become on like every other playlist i make these days. this is also one of the first songs i picked when i was developing Grisaille, before she even had a name. she's very much an Outsider presence: she became a lich by making magic (the force, the concept) hate her, and since magic is life, she is now Beyond Life - undead.

this piece just has the feel of Evil to it. it's so damn perfect. a dark tower, unliving, host to its unliving creator, who makes the dead walk and seeks to make herself truly unkillable; a god over all gods.
instrumental
eerie and dark atmosphere, that fits perfectly to the awakening of a long-dead lich
No, I wasn't born without a heart, I wasn't always like this
Sorrow and Vren, for different reasons. The cruel circumstances of their lives before now has made them the way they are: hurting and haunted.
In your dreams, the ghost has come alive / In these walls, there's nowhere left to hide
old evils coming to life, the dead rising, an inhuman threat - and our own little ghost, the Wraith, under the sway of the lich, Grisaille.
Oh, how the mighty fall in love
Sorrow and Vren, what can I say. Me pointing and laughing at the idiots falling for each other. You thought you were soooo aloof and immune to love. Get boyfriend'd.
I am only a shadow / The chain around your neck / I am only a shadow / A mystery to life and death
Grisaille's connection to Vren, and his ring of shadows granting him a new gift of servitude to her.
instrumental
Break out of a prison / Made from my own mind / Perceived as a villain
a Vren song for the end of book 2. Grisaille takes control of his body via the ring of shadows, and honestly, any song that references a ghost or a spirit i am listening like 'can i apply this to my very special Ghost Man?
instrumental
the build into drama and a darker sound fits perfectly for the book, the mix of volume shifting and triumphant/fearful tones also ties in nicely.
instrumental
another one that inspires me for Grisaille's towers and her swarm of undead, a place of rotting, beloathed by magic and all that lives.
We can't run from it / We can't hide from it
Grisaille is something of an inescapable threat.
I am a phenomenal anomaly, got me / Better run and get a hundred armies, copy / Nothing can stop me / I’m feeling Godly
a Grisaille song - she is ascending, she's risen, she's determined to take what she's due: godhood. the end of book 2 is uh. not a Win for the heroes, lets say.
